How We Approach Balcony Planning

FunBalconyBrixal is an independent editorial site for people with small outdoor spaces — mostly renters and flat owners who want a balcony that works on an ordinary Tuesday, not just in a photo.

Our order of decisions

  • Usable floor

What is left after door arcs, drains and fixed obstacles.

  • Door clearance and route

How you get in, out and across every day.

  • Daily habits

What you really do outside, and when.

  • Furniture and style

Chosen last, to fit everything above.

What we promise

We explain trade-offs honestly — folding versus stacking, benches versus chairs — and give typical measurements as starting points, not guarantees. We are not affiliated with furniture retailers and do not accept payment for recommendations.

We never suggest that a layout overrides building rules, lease terms or structural load limits. When something depends on your specific building, we say so and point you to your landlord or management company.

Our guides draw on widely used planning references such as Neufert's Architects' Data and the Metric Handbook, plus hands-on measuring of real small balconies.
